Has your mind caught up with your body yet?
Sometimes it takes the brain a while to catch up to the body. In our second challenge, I got down to 10% body fat and STILL thought I had a “pooch” in my belly. That’s ridiculous!
We’ve been living Body-for-LIFE for almost six years now, and I still find myself surprised by what I see in the mirror once in a while. Sometimes I even revert back to thinking I look like the “old” me, the one you’ve seen in my before shots.
In our first challenge Gino and I found our minds played clever tricks on us. It took my dad to outsmart us.
After hearing us doubt our progress for a few weeks, Dad encouraged us to go out into the back yard and snap some photos. Yuck! Nobody had seen us in minimal clothing for several months. But, Gino and I faked our pride and posed for Dad.
Dad was so sweet. He worked the lighting, coached us on flexing, got everything “just right” and snapped the pictures. He rushed them down to the store and got them developed in less than an hour. He knew the power of instant gratification.
When Dad handed us the photos, there was no faking it. We were making dramatic changes.
In the mirror, you will see what you want to see. And too many of us still see us as the person in our before shots.
People who strive for continual improvement also tend to be their own worst critics. An easy thing to say, yet so hard to do, is to quit being so hard on yourself! Several weeks ago I told you to forgive yourself. It’s time to take that up a notch. Now it’s time to be good to yourself.
There will always be people who try to bring you down. They have a vested interest in holding you back. If you move forward, they may have to start looking at themselves and the way that they live. They may have to change, too.
You’re not here to worry about them. And even if you did, they are in control of their bodies, their minds and their lives – just like you are. Only THEY can make their own decision to change. The only thing you can do is encourage them, inspire them, and lead by example.
When you take care of yourself, their attempts to derail you are less likely to be successful. When you’re good to yourself you’ll begin to notice the goodness all around you.
You can do this!
But only if you believe that you can. If you want help with your attitude and want to learn to train your brain, check out these CDs. They’ve further helped my progress and have found a permanent home in my library of absolute favorites. Once in the store at Carol Tuttle’s site, click on “Live Presentations,” and then find ‘How to Create Better Health’ and ‘Clear the Emotional Issues that are Keeping You Fat!’
So if you find yourself doubting your progress, wondering if you’re making any changes, I encourage you to take a round of pictures. Place your before photos next to your today photos. You may be surprised by what you see. This brings in a unique sense of objectivity to your progress.
The photos don’t lie!
Our second challenge we got smart and took photos every week. Even starting in great shape, we STILL witnessed phenomenal results.
You are experiencing phenomenal results, too!
NEXT WEEK
As my Dad always says, “Once begun, the job is half done.”
Well, you’re MUCH further than that, now. But should you start thinking about finishing yet?
We weren't always in-shape and healthy. Six years ago we realized our lives had spiraled out of control.
