FREE DAY
One thing that makes Body-for-LIFE different than diets and other programs is Free Day. This is your opportunity to each whatever you want, as much of it as you want. There are both psychological and physiological reasons for Free Day.
Psychologically, if you deprive your body of your favorite things for too long, your mind will take over. And it will take over big-time. Extended deprivation throws the door to ‘binging’ wide open.
Physiologically, your body has one purpose: to survive. And its ability to adapt is amazing. When you change your lifestyle, it won’t take long for your body to adapt. It strives for efficiency! When you “shake things up” a bit, you keep your body guessing, keep it from settling into your new lifestyle.
We found a free DAY to be excessive and unnecessary. Plus, we feared it would counter-act the hard work we had done all week. So we opted for A FREE MEAL. Consider doing the same.
A free meal still gives you the opportunity every week to enjoy those foods you’ve been so good to avoid. AND, it gives you a weekly reminder of how you USED to feel when you ate that way all of the time.
Can you believe how heavy and sluggish you feel when you eat as you used to eat?
But the rest of the day on free day, we stick to authorized foods in 2 ½ - 3 hour increments. This keeps our metabolism up and our attitudes, too.
Can you fit all of your favorite things into one Free Meal?

I’ve found that having an entire free day really sets me off. On Sunday morning when my free day began I was feeling really strong mentally. I almost thought I didn’t need my free day! I started out okay with a sausage and egg burrito and orange juice. I proceeded for lunch to binge on pizza, brownies, chocolate, buttered popcorn, soda, etc… I got completely out of control! I felt absolutely horrible!! It was extremely hard for me to restart on Monday. I think I will try the free meal. I just can’t be trusted to a full free day at this point.
